They say content is king, but no matter how great your blog looks or how great your content is, if no one can find it, no one will see it and you won’t make money online.
Until your blog and its content are found and indexed by the Googlebots that search the web for new content, you are virtually invisible to the search engines.
What is Indexing?
Indexing is a fancy term for information gathered by the Googlebot as it crawls the internet looking for new indexable information, such as new articles, keywords, Title tags and alt tags.
Using an algorithm, Google will determine if the content is high quality, low quality or spam. Once documents are processed by the Googlebots after it reports back to Google, high quality information is added to Google’s searchable index, the SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages). This is the page Google, Bing or Yahoo of results, based your search criteria.
If you wait long enough, the search engines will eventually find you and index your blog and content. The goal of this article is to give you tips to help you get found and indexed faster.
Let’s take a closer look at the 7 Tips to get your blog found in the search engines fast.
1. Placement of Keywords
The popularity of the keywords you choose and where you place the keywords on the page or article is critical for your content to be crawled by the Googlebots, found, indexed and ranked in the search engines.
To find keywords with a high search rank, you want to use a keyword ranking tool, such as the Google Keyword Planner, to find the exact match keyword (EMK) for your article or product review, and popular variations of the keywords people are keying in to find the related content.
Having multiple keywords or variations, will help your content get found more easily, and by ranking for multiple keywords, will increase your ranking score, to improve your search ranking,
Your primary searchable keyword you want to be found for should be in the Title Tag, Alt Tag and in the first sentence of your article.
That keyword or variations of that word should be found approximately 5 to six times in your article.
2. Commenting on Other Blogs
Commenting on other blogs and websites will get a backlink to your blog, and help get it noticed in the search engines faster.
It is important to leave a real and thoughtful comment about the article. Don’t leave a weak comment like, “great post” or “Good job.” These are useless comments, and likely to be deleted by the webmaster as spam.
3. Create and Link to Popular Web 2.0 Sites
These backlinks from popular Web 2.0 pages tells the search engines your site is relevant, and they should rank your site, and its pages highly in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page).
You should place a link to each of the pages on your blog on the Web 2.0 sites.
Ask for a comment
Blog comments give signals back to the search engines that people find your content useful.
While it is a valuable trick to leave comments to help you get found, it is equally important to ask other people and other bloggers to leave a comment on your blog, or make a reference to your blog on their blog with a link.
These different types of links help you get found, and the search engines will begin to search for and index your content.
Add Images or Video to your Blog Posts
Google, Bing and Yahoo love images and video in blog posts, and if your blog posts contain images and video, you are likely to get indexed and ranked faster.
Make sure you add a title tag, alt tag and description to the images. The Googlebots search for these tags, which helps with indexing and ranking.
Blog directories are a popular place to both get your blog found by like-minded people, and yes, you can get a link back to your blog from the search engines.
Submit Site to Google and Bing
Each of the major search engines has a webmaster tools page. You submit your site URL and some other information directly to the search engines, and this will speed up the indexing process, since you don’t have wait for the googlebots to find you.
The submission process also requires you to submit a Sitemap, which is a list of all the pages and posts on your blog, and this allows the search engines to quickly index all the pages on your site, and make them searchable.
